OTIUM | Audit

Information reviewed. Risks made visible. Better-supported decisions.

We review financial, accounting, document and control information within a defined scope. We apply tests, match evidence, identify findings and present clear results for management, partners or the board.

What we solve

When the information exists but doesn't yet give enough certainty.

The need for an audit usually appears when information must be validated, explained or presented with stronger support to management, partners, the board or third parties.

01

Information that doesn't reconcile

Differences between reports, account balances, statements, inventories or support make it hard to understand what is happening.

02

Scattered support

Documents, evidence and explanations are spread across systems, folders, emails or people.

03

Barely visible controls

The company isn't always clear on which controls exist, where they fail or which risks need more attention.

04

Decisions without independent review

Management or partners need a technical reading before making key decisions or being accountable.

What we do for you

A review with defined scope, evidence and traceability.

The work doesn't start by reviewing everything. First we define what needs to be assessed, what information exists and what result the client expects.

01 · Scope

We define the engagement

We agree on the objective, period, areas, accounts, processes or information to review.

02 · Information

We request and organize documentation

We structure the request and detect gaps or inconsistencies that affect the review.

03 · Tests

We perform the technical review

We apply sample testing, data cross-checks and review of supporting documents according to scope.

04 · Evidence

We match what is recorded against what is supported

We link balances, movements, reports and documents to assess consistency and traceability.

05 · Findings

We organize observations and risks

We document the relevant points and, when appropriate, validate them with the client's owners.

06 · Result

We present clear conclusions

We deliver a report, matrix or summary depending on the type of engagement.

Main process

Risk → Procedure → Evidence → Finding → Conclusion

This flow captures the logic of the audit: every observation must connect to a review need, a procedure performed and evidence that supports the result.

Scope before execution Sample testing Documented evidence Traceable findings
01

Risk

We identify which aspect needs review and what could affect reliability, control or accountability.

02

Procedure

We define which test, cross-check, document review or analysis will be performed to meet the objective.

03

Evidence

We review the available information and document the elements that support the work performed.

04

Finding

We point out differences, weaknesses, inconsistencies or relevant situations found during the review.

05

Conclusion

We organize the results and communicate what was observed, why it matters and which next steps can be considered.

An audit doesn't replace accounting operations. If the work detects incomplete records, a need for corrections, tax regularization or control implementation, that work is kept separate from the audit engagement.
Review areas

The scope adapts to the engagement's objective.

Not every audit seeks to answer the same question. OTIUM can structure specific engagements based on the client's information and needs.

Financial statements Review of financial information prepared by the company. Issuing a formal audit opinion must be expressly defined in the proposal.
Limited review Technical assessment of specific financial information with a narrower scope than a full audit.
Special audits Work focused on specific accounts, transactions, movements, documentation or situations.
Funds Review of the source, use, administration and documentation of specific resources or projects.
Inventories Analysis of records, movements, balances, valuation, differences and related controls, according to scope.
Preventive tax review Review of returns, books, support and criteria to identify contingencies before a tax inspection.
Processes and internal control Assessment of administrative, accounting, financial or document processes to identify weaknesses and risks.
Agreed-upon procedures Performance of specific tests agreed in advance with the client and objective reporting of results.
Follow-up review Can be contracted separately to review progress or connect findings with complementary services.
Digital model

Technology organizes the evidence; professional judgment leads the review.

Tools are used to organize, compare, document and present information better. They are not the service in themselves.

Tools that can support the work

Microsoft 365Coordination and document management during the engagement.
SharePointStructured repository for documentation and evidence when the scope requires it.
Structured ExcelMatrices, cross-checks, reconciliations, tests and tracking of observations.
Power Query / Power BITransforming, comparing or visualizing information when it adds clarity to the analysis.
AI as supportOrganization, classification or preliminary analysis under professional review.
Element What it organizes
Request What information was requested, what was received and what is still pending.
Evidence Documents, reports and support linked to each procedure.
Findings matrix Observation, risk, support and status of each relevant point.
Appendices Schedules, reconciliations or analyses used to explain results.
Report Conclusions and recommendations according to the nature of the engagement.
The digital model aims to make the review reconstructible: knowing what was requested, what was reviewed, what evidence exists and how each finding was reached.
Deliverables

The result must be readable, discussable and usable.

The exact deliverables depend on the type of audit or review contracted and the information available.

Main deliverable

Report of results

A document that sets out the scope performed, the main findings, conclusions and, where applicable, recommendations.

Audit / review report Special report Preventive tax review Funds / inventories

Other possible deliverables

Findings or observations matrixTo organize points, evidence and follow-up.
Risk matrixWhen the scope requires a structured view of exposure or control.
Appendices and supporting schedulesReconciliations, cross-checks, analyses or support prepared for the client.
Executive presentationWhen a debrief for management, partners or the board is agreed.
Closing meetingTo explain findings, conclusions and next steps.
Responsibilities

An audit works best when scope and information are clear.

The review requires coordination. OTIUM performs the technical work; the company provides information, access and context so the evidence can be assessed.

OTIUM

✓ Defines and documents the agreed scope.
✓ Prepares the document request.
✓ Performs tests and reviews according to the engagement.
✓ Documents evidence, findings and conclusions.
✓ Communicates results clearly and in an orderly way.

Your company

✓ Delivers information and support within the scope.
✓ Provides access to the people, systems or documentation needed.
✓ Clarifies transactions, criteria or situations that need context.
✓ Reviews preliminary observations when appropriate.
✓ Decides on and implements follow-up actions outside the audit scope.
When the case requires additional work

Audit is not accounting, implementation or tax defense.

If operational needs or specialized work arise during the review, they are assessed and quoted separately for each case.

  • Recording or correcting journal entries.
  • Full reconstruction of accounting records.
  • Preparing financial statements from scratch.
  • Filing or amending tax returns.
  • Responses and defense in tax inspections.
  • Operational implementation of internal controls.
  • Full design of administrative processes.
  • Business valuation or full due diligence.
  • Ongoing document administration.
  • Full physical inventory counts unless expressly contracted.
What changes for the client

From information that's hard to validate to a review that leaves a trail.

The goal isn't to promise zero risk, but to improve visibility over the reviewed information and make clear what needs attention.

Scattered information
Organized request and evidence
Differences without a clear explanation
Documented findings
Dependence on one person
Traceable review process
Barely visible risks
Relevant points identified
Reports that are hard to discuss
Organized conclusions for management or partners
Problems mixed in with operations
Separation between audit and complementary work
How we start

Let's define what your company needs reviewed and what result it expects.

First we understand the current situation, the reason for the review and the information available. Then we define scope, responsibilities, tests and deliverables before starting.
